City life might be creative fodder for most artists, but seclusion can oftentimes make for the most interesting artwork. Rachel Lang, who grew up on a ranch in the Mojave Desert, can attest to that. Detached from the basic amenities of most childhoods—like running water and electricity—Rachel had to find her own ways of staying entertained. This is how she found the inspiration to draw, a hobby that turned into a lifelong obsession. The time spent daydreaming and learning to be proactively creative to amuse herself is the reason this childhood pastime followed through to adulthood. Rachel has always seen herself as an artist. To her, a career in art seemed like a natural pursuit, using her interests in design and fashion to carve her own path.
